Former Juventus and Lazio striker Alessandro Matri believes André Onana had time to ‘calculate the trajectory’ of Antonio Candreva’s cross-shot: ‘If Samir Handanovic was in goal…’

Salernitana held Inter to a 1-1 draw at the Stadio Arechi on Friday with ex-Nerazzurri winger Antonio Candreva scoring a late equaliser with a cross-shot.

Inter keeper Onana was tricked by the ball’s trajectory and conceded at the far post at minute 89.

“He had a lot of time to calculate the trajectory,” said DAZN pundit Valon Behrami, a former Serie A midfielder.

“He didn’t have the pressure from strikers,” argued Matri, a Serie A champion with Juventus in 2011-12.

“To me, he [Onana] could have taken a step back. I don’t want to blame anyone, but if Handanovic was in goal, he would have been found more at fault than Onana. It’s difficult, but the cross was pretty slow, and I think he had time to reach the ball.”

Onana joined Inter on a free transfer from Ajax last summer and has quickly become the regular starter between the sticks at the Stadio Meazza.

Considering Candreva’s goal, Onana has now conceded 25 goals in 29 games across all competitions this season, keeping 14 clean sheets.

Inter haven’t won any of the last six games across all competitions, with three defeats and as many draws. The last time they won was on March 5 when they beat Lecce 2-0 in Milan.
