Inter director Beppe Marotta is satisfied with the Nerazzurri’s transfer campaign but admits it ‘wasn’t easy.’

Inter sold Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea and Achraf Hakimi to PSG and welcomed Joaquin Correa, Edin Dzeko, Hakan Calhanoglu and Denzel Dumfries.

“It wasn’t easy, but Inter have been facing the same difficulties as many other clubs. We had to be creative and use the competence of every department of the club to make up for the lack of investment. Correa-Lautaro is a nice attacking partnership, we are happy,” Marotta told Radio 1.

Lukaku and Hakimi are not the only stars to have left Serie A as Gigio Donnarumma joined PSG from Milan, while Cristiano Ronaldo returned to Manchester United from Juventus.

“There are always the same favourite clubs for the title. Serie A has lost important players but gained something in terms of technical guidance. José Mourinho’s return has aroused new interest. I am sure the league will return to greatness after a period of great financial contraction that has affected the economy and transfers.”

Marotta also commented on the latest issues for Serie A and European clubs, the release of international players who could miss up to ten days of quarantine if they are allowed to travel to ‘red’ zones for their international matches.

Lega Serie A joined La Liga and the Premier League, announcing its support for all those clubs who would refuse to release their players for the upcoming international break.

“It’s bad for clubs. I thank President Gravina and Dal Pino for the attention they are giving to such an important matter,” Marotta said.

“The club must always be at the centre of the situation. Facing a league match and a Champions League fixture with non-fit players represent great damage for every club.”

Inter began their Serie A campaign with back to back wins against Genoa and Hellas Verona.

The Serie A champions are not expected to welcome more new faces at the Stadio Meazza on the deadline day.

  1. A lot of people might be negative about Marotta; not the least Interisti having to welcome a man working at Juventus for years. But one can’t but admit the tremendous work he’s done for Inter.

  2. I have a lot of love for Marotta. He did a great job at Juve, even if his selling record ( for the most part) wasnt great. He really did well to build the team incrementally with quality and continuity. I personally would take him back in a heartbeat if he was available and willing to return.

  3. This man spent 110 million for Douglas Costa, Bernadeschi and Pjaca ……..these kind of moves start a downward spiral. Just look at Inter when they spent 115 million for Joao Mario, Kondogbia and Gabi-one-gol ………or Barca spending 400 mill of Griezmann, Dembele, Coutinho and Malcolm……. and Covid hasn’t helped either

  4. I don’t think you’ll find a sporting/tech director not having overspent or completely backfired a deal on a certain number of players. Being that a structural issue rather than being unfortunate as certainties are never there, indeed that would be a downward spiral. But that’s not what Marotta’s track is at Inter so far; and that’s what it was about here. Not a couple of fails back in the Juve days, or Inter buys not having worked out earlier on.
