Crotone president Gianni Vrenna confirms Junior Messias will join Milan on loan with an option to buy.

Milan had been on the lookout for a new attacking midfielder to replace Hakan Calhanoglu for the whole summer.

The Rossoneri have signed the Brazilian for a reported €2.6m loan plus an option to buy for €5.4m and €1m in bonuses.

They have also secured the services of Yacine Adli on a €10m deal from Bordeaux, but the 21-year-old will return to France on loan.

The Rossoneri saw their €10m bid for Romain Faivre rejected, so they managed to wrap up a deal with Serie B side Crotone for Junior Messias.

Crotone President Vrenna has confirmed that the player will join the Rossoneri on a temporary deal with an option to buy.

“The deal is done, on loan with an option to buy,” Vrenna told Sky Sport Italia and Calciomercato.com.

“The lad is pleased, Milan strongly wanted to sign him because they believe in his qualities. I hope the pitch will do the talking. I am also a Milan fan, so I have two reasons to be happy.”

Last term, Messias played his first-ever Serie A campaign, scoring nine goals and delivering nine assists in 36 appearances. The 30-year-old is Milan’s 11th signing this summer.

  1. I really find this such a strange signing. I know it’s only a loan but I really can’t get my head around it.

  2. More balls, ability and courage than Calha-no-clue ever had. Time will tell if at the age of 30, last season was a bit of an Indian summer or if he can indeed kick on and continue to deliver. He could potentially end up being one of the signings of the season.

  3. @Marty.

Did you see him play last season? 9 goals and 4 assists for a team fighting relegation last season. Plays in exactly the position that Milan need depth. He’s naturally lean, fit, aggressive, skilful, and relatively an injury free career. I don’t usually like highlight reels as they don’t even tell 10% of the story of a player, but maybe go and watch some videos and make up your mind. These days, you have to pay at least more than double of such figures to get a player with such a decent goal&assist return.

  4. Milan did good in transfer market for at least 11 new players so what we want from the coach and the players to bring and take more trophies or it will be disaster

  5. Good signing in my opinion. Low-risk, good attitude and was very impressive whenever I saw him play for Crotone last season. Hopefully, with better players around him he’ll do even better.

  6. For a stopgap signing at least for this season it’s ok. Next season maybe milan can get better playmaker with hoping that this season can get more revenue from champions league. He (Messias) will be a good alternative for Brahim. Milan cannot afford to burn Brahim to play all games, thus comes Messias to backup Brahim.

  7. Isco… Bernardo Silva… Renato Sanches… and in the end what we got was a veteran from Crotone. An some fans think is all good, as if Milan were a minor side, something like Sassuolo, Atalanta (nevermind the last years, its still a minor side, obviously) etc.

    Embarassing.

  8. @Gre-No-Li dude admit it, milan were a minor side for the last 10 years. Now, little wants to come to milan. Even much worsened with their financial problems and FIFA/UEFA sanctions. Look at atalanta for the last 10 years! they are much more better than milan. Now, milan has to prove themself first before big stars wants to join them again. I personally prefer milan sign young unknown talent mixed with old experienced stars than signing the so called known starlet with big salaries but still has to prove their capabilities. Even the golden era of pirlo, rhino and kaka started with no one or little knew about them.
