Kostas Manolas praises Roma’s “good recovery” but “we have to do well from the start next season”.

Since Luciano Spalletti replaced Rudi Garcia in January, the Giallorossi have lost just once in Serie A, to champions Juventus.

“At one point we were fifth, but then we went on a run,” Manolas recalled to Roma Match Program.

“We’ve picked up a lot of wins in the League, and only one defeat, against Juve. It was a good recovery, but we have to do well from the start next season.

“We’ve picked up a lot of wins in the League, and only one defeat, against Juve. It was a good recovery, but we have to do well from the start next season.

“What did Spalletti change? The training sessions are more intense. Spalletti is the same if things go badly or if they go well.

“He’ll highlight the mistakes we made and ask us to improve them. In football it’s never enough… The results are proof that we’ve done a good job.

“We were behind Inter, Fiorentina and Napoli. We recovered and left our pursuers behind, we’ve done very well.”

The Lupi can still take second place, but they need to beat Milan on Saturday and hope Napoli fail to beat Frosinone.

“It’ll be a difficult game, we’ve lost our last three in Milan. It’s never an easy game at San Siro. We have to win, Napoli have a winnable game but you never know in football.

“We have to take the maximum points and see what happens at the end.”

Finally, the Greek international defender was asked how the defence can be improved next year.

“When you lose goals it’s not just down to the defence,” Manolas insisted.

“Just as it’s not all about the attack when you score. It’s down to all the players. I think the key factor is to have balance, like how Juve play. If you have balance it means you can stop your opponent picking it up in front of your goal.

“We play a very attacking game, and we need to get the right balance in case of our opponents’ counter-attacks.”
