Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah said Francesco Totti had been a boyhood idol of his long before they teamed up together at Roma.

The two played alongside each other for two seasons at the Stadio Olimpico before Totti retired and Salah moved to Anfield,

Asked during an interview with BRSport, who his idols growing up were, Salah said: ” [Zinedine] Zidane, Ronaldo and Totti.”

Salah was also asked what made Totti different and he said: “I couldn’t tell you. When you hear people talk about Roma, you always hear Totti.

“His highlights in the league… in my mind, he was always amazing. When I played with him, you could see.

“He was getting on a bit but his quality was incredible.”

Totti spent his entire 24-year career, from 1992 to 2017, was Roma, while Salah was there from 2015 to 2017.

Together, they earned a third and second-place finish in Serie A but were unable to stop Juventus whose nine-year streak of Serie A wins had reached its fifth and sixth years.

Salah made 41 appearances in all for the Giallorossi and scored 29 goals.

Since moving to Liverpool, he has established himself as one of the best players in world football, winning the Premier League and Champions League.

  1. If not for Totti , I would probably not be a Roma fan today. Greatest Italian player alltime and his vision is not matched by anybody in past or present..Jay Jay Okocha would be second for me..He put Bolton on the map

  2. 1. Totti 2.Okocha 3.Ronaldinho 4. Batistuta

My top four to watch every weekend. I got to throw Materazzi in there too !

  3. Imagine if Mourinho had all the players Roma SOLD???

Salah, Alisson, Rudiger, Marquinhos, Paredes, Pjanic, Emerson … with what they have now in Pellegrini, Tammy and Zaniolo and Spinazola? Mamma Mia.

They’d be favorites for the scudetto and then some!!!

  4. Sorry ‘Totti’, whilst Totti was a terrific player, he is not the greatest Italian player of all time. Baggio stumps him for vision and influence in big games. Totti oftenplayed poorly in European club games and that is always the mark of a truly great player – Baggio, Maldini, Del Piero, Baresi, Pirlo all played well for their clubs in European competition – Totti is a great player but it’s been overblown by the fact that he was always a big fish in the small pond of Roma.

  5. @monte. Sadly, only you who thinks that. I prefer to hear Salah speak, rather than unknown person like you who doesn’t even know football. Lame, you are

  6. To Monte:

Baggio not even close to Totti..U want to talk about bigger stages but you forgot biggest stage of all. He missed the whole net?? Totti was an all-star at the world Cup and he won the world Cup. Totti will be remembered as the greatest Italian on one club, Baggio is remembered for missing a net.

  7. Monte

European competition?? World Cup trophy and who is the oldest player to score in Champions League? I can’t believe you want to compare Delpiero with Totti lol he should thank Totti for his world Cup gold cause Lippi wouldn’t of brought him if Totti was 100% (fact) . Your whole list of Italian players are not on Totti level other then Maldini
