Julio Sergio is adamant that Roma are still in the title race despite the eight-point gap that divides them from leaders Milan.

The Giallorossi suffered a Scudetto blow at Sampdoria last weekend when they lost 2-1, but their Brazilian 'keeper is remaining optimistic.

"We have to continue on the path that we have taken," stated the South American. "The eight point gap to Milan is a lot, but there are many games to play – including those against direct rivals.

"We just have to target a win in each tie from now until April, then we can have a look at what situation we are in."

Roma were looking good for a victory at Marassi last week having gone a goal up, but the game turned when Julio Sergio was dismissed after a short back pass from Juan.

"We made too many mistakes which allowed Sampdoria to win," continued the custodian. "The penalty I conceded? I had half a second to decide what to do…"

Julio Sergio is banned for this weekend's trip to Cesena. As a result his place will be taken by fellow Brazilian Doni.
