Italy will go to Turkey for their friendly match without Marco Verratti, Jorginho, Ciro Immobile, Lorenzo Insigne, Domenico Berardi and Gianluca Mancini.

This game has been organised for the FIFA world rankings between the two sides who lost the World Cup play-off semi-finals.

The Azzurri were beaten 1-0 by North Macedonia and Turkey fell 3-1 in Portugal.

Verratti had already left the training camp at Coverciano this morning for an early return to PSG due to fatigue.

All six players released today had been in the starting XI on Thursday evening in Palermo.

  1. This game offers an opportunity to make an immediate statement after the heartbreak. I hope the young players grasp the opportunity as there is enough talent remaining to form a great team.

    Cragno (Move on from Sirigu)
Florenzi (Calabria moving forward) Luis Felipe Bastoni Biraghi
    Barella Pellegrini Tonali
    Zaniolo Scamacca Rsapadori

  2. Am Nigerian but i felt bad when Italy loss, when will this nightmares end, winning euro brings some joy,but not going to world cup again is a disaster

  3. Pls keep Milan players out of this exhibition game. Florenzi and Tonali shouldn’t play. I hope Barella or Chanalogou can pick up some knocks or tired legs.

  4. Don’t include Bonucci, it’s time to start with younger players. This game should be used as the beginning of the rebuild with Mancini as the CT.

  5. The non-selection of Calabria by Manicini was a bad error. Calabria should have been the clear 1st choice at right back, he could have provided more creativity going forward as a deeper threat. The type of deep lying threat that Italy lack since losing Spinazolla. Lazari would be better 2nd option at right back. Florenzi and Di lorenzo are inferior to to Calabri and Lazari. Di Marco and Biraghi are better options at left back compared to the limited Emerson. Mancini made errors in selection on both full backs choosing on loyalty rather than merit. Mancini also lacked tactical imagination and had no plan B formation to the 4-3-3. The 4-3-3 has been worked out by opposition team and clearly was not working in the few games after Euro 2020. He lacked the courage and flexibility to find a different formation to trial with for example 3-5-2 or 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2 against teams that defend deep. Perhaps the congested fixture schedule did not allow him to make a plan B and trial different formations. Mancini deserves to continue despite the selection errors and his reluctance to evolve from past winning formula that clearly stopped working or did not work as well following the absence of Spinazolla . He needs to however learn from his mistakes and be more tactically flexible, innovative and evolve when the paradigm shifts. He also needs to be sharper in selection and promote better players like Calabria in to the team rather than relying on loyalty and sticking to average players like Di Lorenzo, Emerson, Florenzi just because they did a job in the past. It remains to be seen whether he will be able to do this to keep Italy relevant in the world stage but he deserves a chance after the Euro 2020 success.

And this is everything that is wrong with Italy and the National team… People don’t really give F about the Nazionale…

  7. SE agree… at very least he should have changed up formation… HE MUST concede his errors and responsibility…

  8. He knows deep down that he made mistake in selecting out of form players he crossed his fingers and hoped they could play and win! The writing is on the wall mister . No guts this time round
