Beppe Marotta confirms Inter will meet Milan Skriniar’s agent this week but can’t guarantee a deadline for the defender’s contract extension.

The Slovakia international’s contract runs out in June 2023, so the Nerazzurri are trying to strike a deal to extend his stay at the Stadio Meazza.

“We want to finalise [the deal], but I am not sure about the timing,” Marotta said during the event Industry Talk, organised by Il Corriere Della Sera, as quoted by Calciomercato.com.

“I think we’ll have a meeting with his agent this week. Skriniar has a close bond with the shirt and I hope it will result in a positive end of the deal for all the parties involved.”

Skriniar had been in talks with PSG over the summer, reaching an agreement over a €9m-a-year deal. The Serie A giants refused to sell for less than €70m, but it is unsure whether they will be able to match the offer from Paris.

Reports in Italy reported last week that the first meeting between Marotta and Skriniar’s agent had been positive.

The 27-year-old defender currently gets €3m per season and Inter are ready to offer a new deal worth €6.5m plus add-ons, reports in Italy claim.

During today’s event, Marotta also discussed Inter’s loss against Juventus admitting that Simone Inzaghi’s boys deserved to lose in Turin and urging the staff and the club to carefully analyse their issues in big games, especially those played away.
