Gonzalo Higuain ‘deserved better’ at Juventus and will ‘continue to show his worth’ at Milan, according to the man who gave him his debut in senior football.

The Argentine forward scored 55 goals in just 105 appearances over two seasons for the Old Lady, helping the club win two Scudetti and two Coppa Italia trophies.

However, the Bianconeri immediately looked to offload the 30-year-old once they had completed the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo earlier this summer.

However, the Bianconeri immediately looked to offload the 30-year-old once they had completed the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo earlier this summer.

And he has now completed a transfer to San Siro, with the Rossoneri paying an initial €18m loan fee before signing him outright for a further €36m next summer.

“I think Higuain deserved better from the Bianconeri’s point of view,” Leonardo Astrada, who handed the player his River Plate debut back in 2005, told TMW Web.

“He scored more than 50 goals over those two years, always responding to the demands of the club and the Coach.

“His treatment should have been better, but now he will only be focused on Milan.”

Higuain’s form at River Plate earned him a move to Real Madrid, with spells at Napoli and Juve following.

And Astrada insists the Argentina international will continue to be prolific at San Siro.

“Definitely. I am convinced that Gonzalo will continue to show all of his great value.

“I think he will be very motivated by this new challenge at Milan.

“By now, it’s known that when Higuain changes teams he always succeeds in finding new motivation and he scores goals to show it.”
