Fiorentina have announced Nicolas Gonzalez has tested negative for coronavirus and will return to the pitch with the rest of the group.

The Viola winger has played eight games in Serie A this term and only missed one match due to suspension before contracting COVID-19.

He has missed the last three games against Lazio, Spezia and Juventus, but Vincenzo Italiano has been given good news ahead of the big game against Milan at the Artemio Franchi.

Fiorentina host the Rossoneri on November 20 and are hoping to have the 23-year-old available after confirming he’s returning to training.

“ACF Fiorentina announce that the footballer Nicolas Gonzalez, subjected to molecular tests for COVID-19, tested negative,” the club wrote in a statement.

“Today, the diagnostic process necessary to obtain eligibility to return to the pitch will begin.”

Gonzalez, capped 15 times by Argentina, arrived in Florence ahead of 2021-22 and has contributed three goals and two assists across all competitions since joining from VfB Stuttgart for €23.5m.

Fiorentina sit seventh in the league, one point behind Roma at sixth and four points behind Atalanta in the top four.
