Milan directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara were named Best Sporting Directors of the Year at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai.

The pair has built the team that won the first Serie A title in 11 years in 2021-22, bringing to San Siro talents such as Mike Maignan, Theo Hernandez, Sandro Tonali and Rafael Leao.

Maldini and Massara beat Napoli director Giuntoli and received the award in Dubai this evening.

“We have a common vision of football, but in general we share the principles of life, so it’s very easy to work with him,” Maldini said after receiving the award.

Milan’s Paolo Scaroni is among the candidates for the President Of The Year Award, while Juni Calafat beat Geoffrey Moncada for the Best Scout Of The Year.

Frederic Massara is a former Torino and Palermo player and began his with Walter Sabatini first with the Rosanero and then with Roma.

He followed Sabatini at Inter and Jiangsu Suning in 2016 and has been a Milan director since 2019.

Milan star Zlatan Ibrahimovic is attending the ceremony in Dubai and spoke about Maldini and Massara before the award.

“They are doing a great job, it’s also thanks to them that Milan have been successful,” said the Swede.

“We are growing, the club is in new hands, and we are all doing a great job.”
