Milan pair Olivier Giroud and Theo Hernandez start for France with Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot against England in the World Cup quarter-final. ‘We can’t wait,’ said the veteran striker.

It kicks off in Qatar at 19.00 GMT and the winners will go on to face Morocco in the semi-finals.

Giroud has taken over as first-choice centre-forward following the injury to Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema.

Speaking to TF1 in the build-up to the match, Giroud explained how the team is preparing.

“It’s trying to find the right balance between relaxation, motivation, determination and not feeling too inhibited by the event. We can’t wait for it to kick off.”

Giroud is flanked again by Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembele, while Rabiot brings balance to the midfield and Theo Hernandez plays at left-back.

England are trying to reach the World Cup semi-final for only the fourth time in their history, after 1966, 1990 and 2014, picking Phil Foden and Jude Bellingham to support Harry Kane.

England: Pickford; Walker, Stones, Maguire, Shaw; Henderson, Rice, Bellingham; Saka, Kane, Foden

France: Lloris; Koundé, Varane, Upamecano, Theo Hernandez; Tchouaméni, Griezmann, Rabiot; Dembélé, Giroud, Mbappé
