Eusebio Di Francesco admits Sassuolo “never thought” they could be challenging for a Europa League spot.

The Neroverdi leapfrogged Milan into sixth place, which will be valid for Europe if the Rossoneri lose the Coppa Italia Final to Juventus on May 21.

If Milan win that trophy, then only the top five in Serie A enter Europe.

“The Europa League was not our objective at the start, but we find ourselves in this position with two rounds to go,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“We chased Milan down, we are one point ahead and must remain wide awake to avoid losing ground.

“We know that even if we finish in sixth place, we’ll have to wait and see what happens in the Coppa Italia Final, but for us it’d be great just to be here.

“At the start of the season people would’ve never thought we’d be fighting for the Europa League.”
