Others unavailable include Paris Saint-Germain talents Marco Verratti, Thiago Motta and Salvatore Sirigu, Anderlecht striker Stefano Okaka and Manchester United full-back Matteo Darmian.

This get-together will enable Conte and his staff to evaluate the fitness levels of around 30 players.

He can then make his decision and name a final 23-man squad by midnight on May 31.

There will also be a group of three or four alternate young players who can be kept on ice as alternates and remain in the training camp.

These are likely to be Marco Benassi, Daniele Baselli, Adam Masina and Davide Zappacosta.

According to Sky Sport Italia and La Gazzetta dello Sport, the absence of Claudio Marchisio with an anterior cruciate ligament injury has prompted a change of tactics from Conte.

He’ll abandon the 4-3-3 and 3-4-3 experiments of recent friendlies for a return to his tried and trusted 3-5-2.

That means Napoli star Insigne will likely be cut from the 23-man squad for France 2016.

It'd be a blow for the 24-year-old, who has two goals in eight senior caps for Italy. This season for Napoli he has scored 12 and provided 10 Serie A assists.

Insigne and Fiorentina’s Federico Bernardeschi will nonetheless be tested out in the training retreat, probably with Leonardo Pavoletti of Genoa, Torino hitman Andrea Belotti and Sassuolo’s Domenico Berardi.

Giuseppe Rossi, Mario Balotelli and Francesco Totti also have no chance of being called up.
