Borussia Dortmund assistant coach Rene Maric quashed rumours of a possible move to Aston Villa for Axel Witsel, who has been linked with Roma and Juventus.

SportWitness reported Aston Villa are pushing to secure Witsel’s services and that the Belgian midfielder is available for €5m.

Juventus and Roma have been linked with the former Benfica and Zenit St Petersburg player, who turned 32 in January.

Witsel offered to Juventus

The defensive midfielder’s contract at Dortmund expires in June 2022, which has prompted clubs across Europe to make an effort to sign the Belgium international.

The report from SportWitness claimed Aston Villa were working to complete a move for Witsel, capped 114 times by his national side, but the assistant coach at BVB quashed the reports.

“It‘s obvious nonsense,” Maric wrote on Twitter. “I can‘t understand how some people are pretending it‘s not just to make a headline.”

When Maric was asked who his source was, the coach posted a photo of him an Witsel at Dortmund.
