The Bianconeri coach was furious at the end of the 1-1 draw with Napoli, engaging in a heated argument with referee Simone Sozza after the final whistle. He was confused about some of the decisions in the match and angrily expressed his point on the pitch.
The sporting judge announced today that Allegri has received a one-game suspension for this outburst, so he’ll miss tomorrow’s match against Roma. This seems to be a lucky escape for Mourinho, who was also unhappy with the refereeing after the Giallorossi’s loss to Milan.
The Portuguese coach did not hide his feelings, saying in a press conference afterward: “The quality was lacking also for the referee and the VAR. I saw Tammy move his arm, but it was not a voluntary gesture to stop the ball. If you give this as a penalty, then also give a penalty for the fouls on Zaniolo and Ibanez. Give all three or don’t give any of them.
“We want consistency in decisions, this is why I think the level of quality is low and we are unlucky with referees too. The referee didn’t have character today.”
Many have suggested that Mourinho was lucky to escape punishment, pointing to this as another sign of the inconsistent decisions made by the officials.
Allegri was not particularly impressed with the decision, although he looked calm when touching on it in a press conference. “It happened, these things happen, there is no need to say more or comment.”
