Mattia De Sciglio was overjoyed with Juventus’ thrilling 4-3 comeback win over Roma this evening.

The Bianconeri quickly fell behind against the Giallorossi, before Paulo Dybala secured an early equaliser. In the second half Jose Mourinho’s side went back ahead before scoring a third, putting Juventus 3-1 down. Three goals in seven minutes swung the game back in the Bianconeri’s favour, and they clung on to secure all three points at the Stadio Olimpico.

Speaking in an interview with DAZN after the win over Roma, De Sciglio analysed the game.

“I’m happy for a very important win, because of the way the game went. We came on with the wrong attitude conceding two goals.

“We showed our character, proving that when it’s difficult the squad is there and comes out, but we have to show it right away.”

He talked about the importance of the comeback and the upcoming Supercoppa Italiana match against Inter.

“Even at the start of the game we dropped after the equaliser. Let’s enjoy the win and then think about the Supercoppa Italiana.

“This year we must succeed in putting this desire and this character, it’s the extra weapon to be able to reach the top. Conceding two goals one after the other is a big blow, it’s not the first time it’s happened to come out in the second half and not be fired up, it’s a step we’re missing, then we woke up.”

The Italian defender discussed the penalty that Roma were awarded.

“I hoped he wouldn’t give it, I didn’t realise the touch, then I hoped in Tek’s qualities and he saved us like he did in the first match.”

Finally, De Sciglio discussed the upcoming match against Inter.

“We’ll need the Juve of the comeback, of the last few minutes. They’re a great opponent, the first trophy and it’s a goal for us, despite the absences we’ll all have to make an effort.”

Juventus sit 5th in the Serie A table after 21 games, three points behind 4th place Atalanta, who have a game in hand. Massimiliano Allegri’s side had a tough first half of the season but the team are now fired up as the race for a top four spot begins to enter the decisive stages.

2 thought on “De Sciglio underlines Juventus’ strong character after comeback win”
  1. We saw the best and worst of De Sciglio. His defending was slippy for the Mikitaryan goal, but he came up with the goal at the other end. Deserves a chance in Serie A, but he will come unstuck in the champions league.

  2. @Chris his goal is masking another poor performance from him. Strolls around the pitch. Poor defender and inept with the ball. All the talk when he was in Milan went to his head.
