Matthijs de Ligt is having his final training session with Juventus before flying out to Germany this evening for a Bayern Munich transfer worth €80m.

The Dutch international is currently at the Continassa centre on the outskirts of Turin, the base for the Bianconeri that includes their hotel and stadium.

It is his last training session, allowing him to say goodbye to the fans and coach Max Allegri before completing the transfer to Bayern Munich.

He already agreed personal terms and the clubs struck a deal believed to be worth €80m including various add-ons and bonuses, although the exact details vary between sources.

According to Sportitalia, his flight has been booked to leave Turin’s Caselle airport at 17.30 UK time (18.30 local).

De Ligt turns 23 next month and was purchased from Ajax in the summer of 2019 for €85.5m.

His contract with the Old Lady had been due to run until June 2024, but he refused an extension amid concerns over their direction after back-to-back fourth place Serie A finishes.

The 2021-22 season was the first time in over a decade that Juventus failed to win a single trophy.

5 thought on “De Ligt’s final Juventus session before Bayern move”
  1. Really dont think he is a big loss, way overrated and always looked average beside Bonucci and Chiellini..

  2. He may be a bit younger, but he’s no better than the linked Bremer or Pau Torres in my opinion, and they can come in on lower wages, so bring on the transfer I say. To be fair, he’s always been professional and he’s contributed to the cause, so on that note thanks but goodbye.

  3. 70M+10M is a good deal for Juve. Still less than 75M+10M that they paid to Ajax, but if we consider amortization effect Juve should make a profit. DeLigt has always been overpriced anyway. With that money, Kounde, Bremer, Torres are all better options.
As Inter fan, I’d say it’s hard to compete financially with Juve without owning stadium. Juve is being run not that much different from City/PSG. Exor keep pumping money via self sponsored dealings.

  4. Good deal for all that are involved. De Ligt was signed during the Pre-COVID era so wages and transfer fees are quite different then compared to now. I don’t think it’s fair therefore to say that Juventus got a bad deal and the magic of Amortization means that in reality, Juventus are geeting quite a fair bit of profit for this deal. Additionally, any replacements they bring in are surely going to come in at a more manageble cost in the long run and that sustainability is something that Juventus needs to return to. There are a lot of clubs that still haven’t adjusted their spending and recruitment to the reality of a post-COVID world.

While it will take time for them to adjust to having a new lineup – especially in defense, it’s hopefully better that they resolved these recruitment issues early in the transfer window as opposed to being left hanging like last year when Ronaldo left at the last minute – that was really what doomed the previous season for Juventus.

The rest of the league is shaping up well – I must say!
