Today's games saw Vicenza and Cagliari facing trips to Serie A opposition in the shape of Carpi and Sassuolo respectively.

Carpi also secured their place in the Last 16 of the competition today, beating Vicenza 2-1 at Stadio Alberto Braglia.

Having gone in level at the break, despite a number of chances, the Biancorossi finally made the breakthrough in the 47th minute.

Ryder Matros got on the end of a cross from Gaetano Letizia to head past Richard Marcone in the Vicenza goal. Marco Borriello doubled their lead from the spot, but Leonardo Gatto ensured a nervy finish.

On Wednesday, Palermo were dumped out of the competition by Lega Pro side Alessandria.

The third-tier side raced into a 2-0 lead, with Franco Vazquez sent-off for the Rosanero. A late red card of their own and an Alberto Gilardino strike made them sweat, but Alessandria went through 3-2.

Udinese made light work of Atalanta, with the evergreen Antonio Di Natale bagging a brace as they eased to a 3-1 victory.

Torino secured a Derby della Mole tie with their 4-1 win over Cesena on Tuesday, with Verona edging past Pavia to also make the Last 16.

Milan were taken to extra-time by Serie B side Crotone, but advanced 3-1 with goals from Giacomo Bonaventura and M’Baye Niang.

Spezia set-up a glamour tie with Roma by beating Salernitana 2-0.
