Even director Francesco Totti and current caretaker manager Claudio Ranieri dropped hints that talks were progressing well this weekend.

However, the Sunday Express newspaper claims Conte is stalling after a sudden downturn in fortunes for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United.

Solskjaer had taken over as caretaker after Jose Mourinho was sacked and given the job on a permanent basis due to nine straight wins, but since the confirmation he has lost seven of his last nine competitive games.

Conte had long been associated with the Old Trafford bench, even when Mourinho was still at the helm.
