It was reported yesterday that the Nerazzurri are considering a loan deal for the veteran midfielder, as Roberto Mancini looks to inject some creativity into his side.

Today, Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the Beneamata Coach has held informal talks with the regista, who moved to MLS after leaving Juventus at the end of last season.

However, the newspaper believes that Manchester City, the American side’s parent club, could also look to bring in Pirlo on a short-term loan deal.

The regular season in Major League Soccer runs March to October, so it’s common for players to have loan spells in Europe during the off-season.

City have already taken advantage of the practice, with Frank Lampard playing for Manuel Pellegrini’s side last season.

David Beckham famously had two loan spells at Milan outside of his commitments to LA Galaxy, though Pirlo said after the final MLS game of the season he was likely to stay in the U.S.

“I’ll go on holiday,” the 37-year-old told reporters after the loss to New England Revolution.

“I will train for a few weeks before the pre-season training camp, but I don’t think I’ll go on loan like Beckham did with Milan.

“It wouldn’t be fair to the club.”
