Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero believes that the Champions League is ‘cursed’ for the Bianconeri.

Pinturicchio did lift the Champions League during his 19 years with the Old Lady, but also lost in three finals, and the World Cup winner believes the competition is bad luck for his former side.

“Manchester in 2003? We were asked questions we could not answer,” Del Piero told Gazzetta dello Sport of his most recent final defeat.

“I won’t say it was fate that would seem like an excuse but… that trophy is cursed for Juve.

“No fan is proud of the win in 1985 [in the European Cup, overshadowed by the Heysel disaster], and for that reason the win in 1996 holds even more significance.

“Then there were three other finals we could have won but like I said, it’s cursed.

“Juve have a history in Italy, because of the Agnelli family who cared a lot about the Scudetto and holding the national record.

Milan have a European history because that was [Silvio] Berlusconi’s choice. Their respective roll of honour reflects the attitudes and ambitions of the two clubs.”

Del Piero also discussed this season’s Scudetto race, and says criticism of Roma and Francesco Totti is over the top.

“Juve’s consistency of results and performances are making the difference.

“I’ve read criticism of Roma, but the reality is that Juve are having another extraordinary season.

“Francesco scores and plays well, the problem is not him, but the expectations.
