Fabio Capello was impressed with Roma’s signing of free agent Paulo Dybala, believing his arrival will shift the balance in Serie A.

The 28-year-old Argentinian forward agreed to join the Giallorossi on a free transfer yesterday, being convinced of the project by Jose Mourinho. He will earn around €6m net per season in Rome and is expected to be a key figure in their fight for a top four finish.

Speaking to Il Messaggero, Capello first discussed if Dybala’s move to Roma changes things in Serie A.

“I would say so, yes. He is a great player, one of those who makes the difference. He raises the level of the team and changes something in our Serie A because Roma is now in the top group of teams.

“La Joya will bring goals and assists, increase the offensive potential and can compose with Zaniolo and Abraham a formidable trio, without forgetting Pellegrini. Then if Mourinho calls you personally, it becomes really hard to say no.”

He also compared his Scudetto winning Roma team to the one coached by Mourinho now.

“The comparison is plausible. I see many similarities. I think Mourinho, as happened to yours truly that season, will try to ensure balance in a team with enormous offensive potential.

“That Roma, after all, was devoted to attack, we had Cafu and Candela on the wings. I needed something in coverage. What a beautiful Roma, though, that one. A magnificent team.”

  1. As one of the older Italian football fans here, I’m really looking forward to what next season holds.

Roma are looking promising, as well as Juve, Milan, Inter – even Fiorentina look interesting.

Roma with Dybala is giving me memories of Abel Balbo days.

Serie A is taking steady steps to being a great league again
