Milan defender Davide Calabria will soon return to action and admits Napoli ‘surprised’ the Rossoneri while Tottenham are ahead of the Serie A champions ‘at a European level.’

The Italy international suffered an injury in a 3-1 win over Empoli on October 1 and hasn’t returned to action since.

However, he’s joined the Rossoneri in Qatar, where Stefano Pioli’s men are preparing for the second part of the campaign.

“I had understood that it was a tricky injury. I’ve worked hard to be here and I am ok now,” the defender told Sky Sport Italia, as quoted by Milannews.

“I am getting back in shape. I am training alone to recover in safety, but I am happy to share the pitch with the group and I should be back soon.”

The Rossoneri’s target is to retain the Serie A title, but Napoli are still unbeaten in Serie A and the Diavoli are now eight points below Luciano Spalletti’s men.

“We didn’t expect Napoli to be this strong, they are having an incredible season,” admitted Calabria.

“I think it’s still early, January is a crucial month because they have many big games. We must make up lost ground and hopefully, some injured players will return. So I am optimistic.”

The Partenopei will face Inter on January 4, but the first month of the year will be pretty challenging for the Partenopei with games against Juventus and Roma.

“We are a strong team and we’ve proved we can win another title. Perhaps, it will be even more difficult than last season because there are many clubs involved,” the defender continued.

“But I see a great Milan in the next few years, this will be a target.”

The Rossoneri will face Antonio Conte’s Tottenham in the Champions League Round of 16 with the first meeting at San Siro on February 14.

“They are ahead of us at a European level, but we want to move forward, and we are looking forward to facing them,” said the Italy international, who didn’t even want to talk about the World Cup: “It’s too late to have regrets, it’s useless to talk about it.”
