Bologna are on the verge of selling defender Arthur Theate to Stade Rennais, according to reports in Belgium, for €18m including bonuses.

The centre-back recently turned 22 years of age and has three senior caps under his belt for Belgium.

He was signed from KV Oostende initially on loan in 2021 and then on a permanent deal this summer for €6m.

So if the reports are accurate that the cost of this sale will be €18m including add-ons, that represents a tripling of their initial investment.

The two clubs are expected to reach a full agreement tonight or at most tomorrow, with the player then having to work out personal terms.

It would be the first experience in France for Theate, who came up through the Genk and Standard Liege youth academies.

He impressed in his debut Serie A season, making 31 appearances with two goals and an assist.

Theate had been linked with Milan over the summer as a potential reinforcement in defence, also because he can play at left-back.
