Rodrigo Bentancur has now scored more goals for Tottenham Hotspur this season than in his five years at Juventus.

The 25-year-old Uruguay international has been a revelation since making the move to Spurs in January 2022 for €19m plus up to another €6m in performance-related bonuses.

This term has been particularly impressive, as he found the net five times between the Premier League and Champions League, along with two assists, in a total 21 competitive appearances.

Incredibly, Bentancur spent five years at Juventus and played in 181 games for the club, yet scored a grand total of three goals.

There were at least 18 assists and he was sent off on three occasions, in every situation for a double yellow card.

Bianconeri supporters were already frustrated at seeing how Dejan Kulusevski flourished following the move to Tottenham, but Bentancur has been equally surprising.

He scored a Premier League brace today in the 4-3 win over Leeds United, a match that also saw Italy international Willy Gnonto make his first Premier League start.

  1. Look at the coach. Even more astonishing is the fact that the PL is a much harder league coming up against higher calibre players. He was mostly under the watch of the 0.01 and he was certainly playing at 0.02 Mbps with the PhD router.

  2. The problem is the manager, both Allegri and Sarri played him as the anchorman, which exaggerated his shortfall. Also it’s much easier to play for Spurs as less criticism.
