Manuel Pasqual’s agent has played down links to Roma and Milan, but asserts he has yet to talk to Fiorentina about a new contract.

A report in today's Gazzetta dello Sport claims that the full-back, who is out of contract at the end of the season, could depart the Viola as early as January, with Roma believed to be leading Milan in the race to sign the 32-year-old.

However, the player’s agent has dismissed such links to the Giallorossi and Rossoneri, at least for now.

“I have also read about Roma and Milan, but the reality is that for now these are just and only rumours, no-one has called me,” the player's representative Gaston Rizzi told Tuttomercatoweb.

“I haven't heard anything [about a renewal].

“It's true that there's an automatic renewal option once Pasqual reaches 20 appearances, but I don't think that his future with the Viola is linked to this situation.

“For players over 30, Fiorentina have a policy of one-year contracts, and it's why this clause has been inserted.

“His lack of playing time? In 10 years at Fiorentina, he's already lived through times like these, but in the end, he was always the player with the most appearances in that role [on the left].

“We are a third of the way into the season, and there is still plenty of time because things can change.

“Now, his job is to be ready for when Montella calls him. The Coach is the one who makes decisions, so we have to respect them.

“We feel that the national team is helping him maintain a high level of interest.”
