Walter Zenga says his sacking from Sampdoria comes as a result of the ‘bizarre contradiction’ surrounding fan relations.

The Coach was fired yesterday after less than half a year on the Marassi bench, but said he has ‘no complaints’ about how he did with the Blucerchiati.

“I have no complaints about what happened at Sampdoria and it didn’t go badly because we were two points behind Juventus and four behind Milan,” he told Il Secolo XIX.

“But it’s strange that the motivation for my sacking was that fans were angry with me.

“It seems to me like a sign of how it goes in Italian football these days, because if I go under the terraces to talk with the fans I receive a warning from Lega Calcio, while a club will fire you because the fans protest about you. It’s a bizarre contradiction.

“All of this makes me think about why I live abroad, it’s a matter of sporting culture, to give importance to what is right in football.

“I will be the one to be hurt but I will always take responsibility for my decisions.

“I’m at peace with my conscience because I know I did what I could, also by saying sorry after defeats because not everyone knows how to do that.

“You can’t contest the holiday in Dubai given that my wife and two young kids are there and I hadn’t seen them for weeks.

“I was also authorised by President Ferrero, but someone has speculated on it.”
