Former Roma Coach Zdenek Zeman believes “there is no real rival to Juventus in Serie A”.

The Czech tactician is well known for his criticism of the Bianconeri, but feels there is nothing that can stop them winning an eighth Scudetto in a row.

Former Roma Coach Zdenek Zeman believes “there is no real rival to Juventus in Serie A”.

The Czech tactician is well known for his criticism of the Bianconeri, but feels there is nothing that can stop them winning an eighth Scudetto in a row.

“There is no real rival to Juventus in Serie A,” Zeman told RMC Sport.

“Inter and Napoli are chasing but, as has happened for years, in the long run the Bianconeri will have no problems.

“Douglas Costa has impressed me ever since I saw him in Germany, and he could probably serve [Cristiano] Ronaldo better than [Mario] Mandzukic, though he does a different job all over the pitch.”

Zeman did discuss the merits of the other two sides he named though, starting with whether Marcelo Brozovic can be compared to Miralem Pjanic.

“They’re both different, but the Croatian is doing well.

“The Barcelona game? Barça aren’t enjoying a good spell, they’re a different team without [Leo] Messi. Inter can compete with them, but they’ll need to make it physical.

“Lorenzo Insigne? He’s improved, in two years with me he scored 20 goals but he’s never repeated it with Napoli. He was always someone who could do those numbers.

“With Ancelotti he’s doing well because he’s been given a more attacking role. I prefer him and Dries Mertens to Arkadiusz Milik because I like small players, and those two play the ball on the ground well.”

The veteran Coach was also asked about Roma, after Paulo Sousa said he’d like to take the job one day.

“Everyone wants to go to Roma, the problem is staying there. It’s a big club, and even now things aren’t going as we expected.

“The problem for a Coach is spending a long time on the Roma bench.

“The problem with the Giallorossi team is that every summer they sell their most important players, and when you do so you need to give the new ones time to adapt.

“It’s not a matter of quality, it’s about adapting to Italian football. [Javier] Pastore is a good player, but it’s hard to fit him in a 4-3-3.

“If you put him on the left or the right of the midfield three then it becomes difficult in the defensive phase.

“Patrik Schick? He’s not a winger. He needs to play through the middle, but [Edin] Dzeko is there.”
