Some Russian fans are accusing ex-Roma midfielder Leandro Paredes of a deliberate red card – so he can watch Boca Juniors vs River Plate.

The Zenit St Petersburg star was sent off after 82 minutes against Ajmat, for aiming a kick at Ravanelli Ferreira dos Santos.

Because of that he’ll be suspended for Sunday’s game against CSKA Moscow, who play Roma tonight.

While the footballing authorities have offered no suggestion of anything untoward, some fans are accusing the 24-year-old of being deliberately sent off.

While the footballing authorities have offered no suggestion of anything untoward, some fans are accusing the 24-year-old of being deliberately sent off.

On Saturday his boyhood club Boca Juniors will face bitter rivals River Plate at La Bombonera in the first leg of the Copa Libertadores final.

On social media some fans accused him of incurring the suspension so he could fly back to Argentina to watch the game.

There is no proof to back up those claims, and after the anger by some fans it’s very unlikely he’ll be at the match anyway.
