Inter captain Javier Zanetti has defended Rafa Benitez from criticism amid claims that he is one game away from getting the sack.

It's widely believed that Benitez will lose his job if Inter suffer defeat against FC Twente in the Champions League tomorrow evening.

"No one is thinking about a change in Coach," Zanetti said. "We are going forward. The criticism won't stop us.

"This [bad] spell will end. We want to invert this tendency as soon as possible.

"We know that we are going through a moment of difficulty for many reasons. We won't stop. It's normal that there is criticism.

"We have done nothing but win for five years. A moment like this can happen and it's normal that criticism comes with it."

Zanetti then moved to deny reports that Esteban Cambiasso had called Inter President Massimo Moratti to ask for Benitez's dismissal, calling them "shameful."

"A month ago you said that the team was playing better. Inter deserved more in many games. We hope that this period ends, starting already from tomorrow evening.

"Everyone is trying to give their best. Sometimes we manage to do it, sometimes we don't."
