Maurizio Zamparini praises Palermo’s ‘character’ after a 1-0 victory over Chievo, but expresses concern at the team’s style of play.

The President’s words will be of concern to Coach Giuseppe Iachini, as Zamparini is notoriously trigger-happy, having made over 50 managerial changes in his 25 years at the club.

Speculation since the early part of the season has surrounded the technician’s position, in spite of Zamparini’s so-far public backing.

Today, the President has reflected that he is not overly convinced with every aspect to the Rosanero at the moment.

“The team has character,” Zamparini admitted to Live Sicilia Report.

“They didn’t play well, but luckily they have a lot of character.

“We are still growing and we were certainly much improved against Juventus. Right now however, we’re not playing.

“I saw Cagliari against Milan, and that was a totally different kettle of fish.

“In terms of getting the victory the game [against Chievo] went very well, but the team didn’t play football, other than in terms of personality.

“We still have a lot to do in order to grow. I’m concerned.

“At this moment in time Palermo are not playing.”

Zamparini also took the time to discuss midfielder Franco Vazquez, who reacted to being substituted 12 minutes from time by taking off his shirt and throwing it on the ground.

“If it were me I’d have thrown a bomb at the feet of the Coach,” Zamp continued, in reference to Iachini.

“The gesture with the shirt shouldn’t have happened. But Vasquez should not have been substituted.

“As I have played football, and was impulsive, I like to see a calm player like Vasquez make a gesture like that because it shows that it means a lot to them.”
