Alberto Zaccheroni doubts Milan can win the Scudetto anytime soon and warns “nobody here has heard of” their Chinese buyers.

The club takeover has been postponed repeatedly and the latest deadline is March 3 2017.

“I have asked around. Nobody in China has heard of these investors and in China all those who have a lot of money are well-known,” Zac told Tuttosport.

The tactician has a great deal of experience in Asia, leading the Japan national team for four years and is currently the Coach of Chinese club Beijing Guoan.

Even without investments, the Rossoneri are currently in joint second place with Roma, only four points off leaders Juventus. Can Vincenzo Montella win the Scudetto, just as Zaccheroni did in 1999?

“I do not agree with the comparisons, because my Milan team was older. We were coming off 11th and 10th places under Arrigo Sacchi and Fabio Capello, but had more quality in the side like George Weah, Zvonimir Boban, Oliver Bierhoff, Leonardo, Paolo Maldini and Billy Costacurta.

“The general context was different too. At the time there were the ‘seven sisters’ plus Udinese. Lazio effectively had two squads and either of them could’ve won the Scudetto.

“The weakest of the group was Fiorentina, and that’s saying something because they had Manuel Rui Costa and Gabriel Batistuta.

“I really don’t think this Milan can win the Scudetto. Perhaps they can reach the Champions League, but only if one of Juventus, Roma and Napoli slow down due to European commitments. It already happened to Napoli this season and the Rossoneri are taking advantage.

“I think the greatest strength of this Milan team is that there’s less pressure on them than anyone else, because they are in the process of transition from one owner to another and have few recognised star names.

“Montella brings a balance to his teams and is getting the best out of players like Mattia De Sciglio, Gabriel Paletta and Gianluca Lapadula. I can’t give him the credit for Suso, because his form was already impressive at Genoa.”
