Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka is still on Roma‘s radars, but the Swiss international insists that he wants to ‘achieve something special with Arsenal.’

Xhaka was Mourinho’s priority target in the summer, but Roma never agreed on the player’s transfer fee with Arsenal after shaking hands with the 29-year-old over a four-year contract at the Stadio Olimpico.

The Swiss international signed a contract extension with the Gunners at the end of August, ending Roma’s dreams of signing him.

Mourinho will still be looking for midfield reinforcement in the summer, especially considering Jordan Veretout’s likely exit. The Special One hasn’t given up on Xhaka, but the Arsenal midfielder is determined to remain at Arsenal until the end of his contract in 2024.

“I didn’t sign a new contract only to enjoy my time here,” he told the Players’ Tribune.

“I want to achieve something with this club, something special. Before that, I don’t leave.”

Xhaka has yet to score his first goal with the Gunners this season and hasn’t been a regular starter. He has only collected 22 appearances across all competitions, playing 1,829 minutes.
