Inter are not looking for a repeat of the Milan Skriniar situation and want to tie down Alessandro Bastoni to a new contract, but there is still considerable distance between the two parties.

The Nerazzurri met with the defender’s agent Tullio Tinti on Wednesday to discuss a new deal, but the meeting failed to produce the long-awaited breakthrough, leaving the club in a tense position.

Bastoni’s contract expires with Inter in the summer of 2024 and the club do not want to repeat the Skriniar situation by allowing him to start next season with less than a year left on his deal.

As detailed by Calciomercato.com, Inter have offered Bastoni a salary worth €4.5m net per season plus add-ons, a hefty raise compared to his current €2.8m net wages.

The Italian defender wants more, however, asking for around €6m net per season, the salary rejected by Skriniar.

Tinti seemed calm after yesterday’s meeting with Inter but further meetings will be needed to try and close the gap between the two parties.

Manchester City and Chelsea are paying close attention, interested in picking up Bastoni in the summer should an agreement not be found.
