Venezia were furious that Inter’s goal was allowed to stand after an apparent Edin Dzeko elbow left Marco Modolo with a bruised cheekbone, but there’s a reason VAR could not intervene.

The Lagunari had taken the lead at San Siro through Thomas Henry and conceded the equaliser from Nicolò Barella.

Dzeko collided with a high arm on Modolo and the Venezia defender had a very clearly visible bruise on his cheekbone.

VAR stopped play to examine the incident in the build-up, but did not intervene.

There were protests, but it’s entirely possible that was a foul and still VAR would not be able to disallow the goal.

This is because the coming together was a long way before the goal, with another Venezia player being in control of it during that time, so a new move was started.

The Dzeko challenge was therefore not part of the build-up to the goal and could not be disallowed using VAR.

  1. Once again, VAR technology not being the problem but the application of it.

The powers that be don’t know yet how to use it to its full advantage.

  2. If it were Milan, ref would sent of Ibra and would present the opponent 2 goals.

Give them Scudetto already and end this circuses

  3. Let’s just say for a moment that the reason was correct. BUT. He didn’t even get a yellow for an elbow 😂

  4. @the master, I was thinking the same earlier
But of course, it’s only juve that get help, it’s only when it’s juventus is it a big deal and a scandal and a fix

Tired of this leagues bias against juve, when, as in all leagues, the big teams all benefit

  5. @Az

Or ref would allow Tonali to pull the shirt if Zaniolo without awarding a penalty against Milan

Or ref would allow Florenzi to pull the shirt of a Venezia player without awarding a penalty against Milan

Or ref would allow Salesmaekers to kick a Venezia player and not send him off

Without even mentioning the 200 penalties awarded to Milan over the past season and this one

  6. Dzeko jumped and used his arms to balance himself in mid-air to head the ball while the defender ran into his elbow. what was Dzeko supposed to do? Do you people even watch football? it’s a contact sport too you know.

  7. @ Daniele

You serious?! That is equivalent of someone punching another and saying he ran into my fist face first!

Imagine the situation reversed, if you can, would you still say such a stupid thing?

  8. 99% people above haven’t even seen what happened. Just because FI published then let’s just cry over it. Why? Because Inter is winning!

Congrtas to Venezia though, they played really well.

  9. Milan fans are always crying …not realise of their team weakness…the real proof is sitting on the bottom of UCL qualification.

  10. Milan fans can only cry. It’s easier to blame VAR rather than their own weak mentality. Theo Hernandez missed a penalty against Spezia and they conveniently act like it never happened and chose to focus on Messias’ disallowed goal.

It sucks whenever referees made mistakes but at least have some accountability against your own players instead of blaming everyone else. Inter will win the Scudetto because they’re the best team in the league that don’t crumble in pressure. If this was Milan and 1-1 at the 90th minute, the only outcomes possible would be a draw or Venezia scored an injury time winner. No way Milan can pull off 3 clutch victories in a row like Inter. That’s often the difference between champions and losers.

  11. @Vieri to won 3 clutch victories in a row is only a fact that your team couldn’t kill the game earlier OR lucky OR being helped by refs decisions OR a sign of declining performances.

  12. @Julian as opposed to losing the entire game and got mad because your team couldn’t get the job done at all? I’d take clutch victories any time. The schedule has been brutal and fatigue has set in, it’s normal to have a declining performance. It’s not like the rivals are lighting up the world in any way. Milan lost to a relegation battler at the death (while missing a penalty served on a platter and failing to kill the game much sooner) and then needed extra time to beat Genoa. As I said, you guys are very good at scrutinizing others and never looked at how you yourself are in a mediocre form.

I bet you’re also one of those people who think Madrid winning 4 CLs were “lucky” or how Fergie’s Manchester United only won many titles because they’re helped by refs. What the losers don’t realize is winners always find a way to win even in unfavorable conditions. Losers complain all the time blaming luck and referees.

  13. It is more down to incompetence from the whole league. Honestly this farmers league has been left in the dust decades ago.
