Tiago Djaló was expected in Turin to undergo his medical with Juventus this week, but he will land in Italy in a few days as the Bianconeri must finalise Filippo Ranocchia’s sale to Palermo.

Juventus have reached an agreement with Djaló and his club, Lille, over a permanent €3.5m transfer plus add-ons.

The Portuguese defender’s contract expires in June 2024, so the Bianconeri shook hands with his club for a relatively low transfer fee.

Djaló, a former Milan defender, should have landed in Italy this week, but according to Gazzetta, the Bianconeri are still finalising Ranocchia’s sale to Palermo, so the Portuguese will have to wait for a few more days.

Giuntoli: ‘Details for Djalo, Juventus close the market’

Wednesday’s printed edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (page 16) explains that the two deals are ‘strictly connected’ as Juventus must deal with the ‘liquidity index’ that forces the Bianconeri to sell a player, before signing a new one.

Ranocchia is currently on loan at Empoli but is expected to leave the Tuscans to move to Sicily permanently. Income from his sale and Radu Dragusin’s Tottenham transfer (Juventus had a 20% sell-on clause on the Romania international) will allow the Bianconeri to sign Djaló.

The Portuguese will probably arrive in Turin at the end of this week or the beginning of the next one as Juventus hope to finalise Ranocchia’s transfer between Friday and the beginning of next week.
