According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Roma rejected approaches from Leeds United, Everton and Southampton who wanted to get Nicolò Zaniolo on loan until the end of the season in January.

The Italy international asked to leave the club in the winter transfer window, but the only offer accepted by Roma came from Bournemouth who had put on the table €30m plus add-ons.

Zaniolo initially refused to join the Premier League side, but then changed his mind, when, however, it was too late given that Bournemouth had signed Hamed Traore from Sassuolo.

The 24-year-old didn’t train with Roma on Tuesday despite not being authorised by his club, hoping for a last-minute transfer. Il Corriere dello Sport reports Southampton and Everton made late approaches for Zaniolo, but they would only sign the player on loan until the end of the season.

Leeds United, Tottenham and Milan were also in talks for Zaniolo in January but offered loan deals with an option to buy, which was still not enough for Roma.

Milan and Tottenham offered loan deals with an obligation to buy tied to their Champions League qualification this season, but Roma sought a permanent transfer or an obligation to buy not linked to any team target.

Zaniolo has been dropped for tonight’s Coppa Italia game with Cremonese and will return to training on Thursday. He is not expected to play for the Giallorossi again this season.
