Arsenal’s Gabriel is regarded as Juventus‘ top defensive target and there are at least three reasons why the Bianconeri are looking at the Brazilian centre-back.

The Serie A giants have already secured the services of Paul Pogba and Angel Di Maria, but are desperate for defensive reinforcements given that Giorgio Chiellini has left and Matthijs de Ligt is willing to join Bayern Munich.

The Dutch defender has already reached an agreement with the Bavarians, but Juventus have rejected the opening offer from Germany: €60m plus add-ons.

Gabriel is now on top of Juventus’ defensive targets because of technical and financial reasons.

The Bianconeri will try to lower Arsenal’s asking price, which is €30m-40m, but the defender’s €2.6m-a-year salary is affordable for Juventus. His gross wages could also be cut by a further 50% thanks to the so-called ‘Growth decree.’

Being only 24, Gabriel has ample room for improvement and Juventus are looking for a defender who has international experience and can further develop in the future.

Last but not least, Gabriel is a left-footed centre-back and could be an alternative to Leonardo Bonucci to build up from the back. Juventus don’t have a left-footed centre defender following Chiellini’s move to LAFC, so Gabriel is a signing that would make sense for the Old Lady also from a technical point of view.

As of today, Juventus’ centre-backs for next season are De Ligt, Bonucci, new signing Federico Gatti and Daniele Rugani. If De Ligt leaves, the Old Lady may be looking for two new centre-backs and not only one.

9 thought on “Why Juventus have made Arsenal’s Gabriel their top defensive target”
  1. He was not their top target. The 1996 CL winners lost out on all the top picks. Rudiger was never going to take a step down, and when the 14 time CL winners came calling, the prestige of wearing the most famous colors in all of football was a no brainer. Bremer has an agreement with Inter. Koulibaly was never going to move to Turin. They are not smart enough to get Skriniar on a free next year like Moggi would have plotted. That leaves them with a few options. Call Sergio Ramos, Nemanja Vidic, Montero, Roberto Sensini, Klaus Augenthaler and other players who might want to come out of retirement.

  2. Arsenal cannot afford to loose one of their best central defenders last season so soon. Saliba may be good. Has he been tested and confirmed a worthy replacement in an Arsenal setup? Gebriel is not for sale, try again next summer.

  3. It will take not less than €70m to sell him – a crazy bid. Otherwise I don’t see why Edu/Arteta will want to weaken their team.

  4. 😅😅😅😅😅

Augentaler isn’t that the German defender from the 86 world cup in Mexico. Very funny Lord but seriously things are not that bad. I was not keen on KK for his age. If De Ligt leaves for Bayern, a younger defender should be the focus. I do not know much about this Gabriel, but everyone has to start somewhere and he could be a gem who knows.

  5. @Ravanelli, me either. I think this is just a media invention since Arthur is linked with Arsenal a few months ago.

  6. The only really good brazilian CBs I have seen in my life were Thiago Silva and below him Marquinhos. The rest are average, bad and most of them trash

  7. @Raveneli +@El cid – he’s highly rated – very aggressive centre back like demiral – can give Penalties away for being to aggressive. Tries to takle the opponent asap – very good all rounder – very very strong – However last season he made many errors for arsenal – however he did have to partner with ben white=very poor.

I would prefer juve to get these ahead of gabriel in order – Pau Torres, Jules Kounde, Laporte, Kimpembe – all better than than gabriel
Then i would purchase Giorgio Scalvini -18yr old from atalanta – italian centre back – really highly rated – next best itallian defender – easily can get him for 25meuros
