Juventus are continuing to have doubts about Wojciech Szczesny after seriously considering a move for Paris Saint-Germain’s Gianluigi Donnarumma in the summer.

The 33-year-old Polish goalkeeper did not have a positive outing in the Bianconeri’s 4-2 loss to Sassuolo on Saturday, making multiple errors as his team fell in their first defeat of the new campaign.

Massimiliano Allegri confirmed that Szczesny is still the starting goalkeeper in Turin but did highlight the qualities of backup option Mattia Perin, suggesting that changes could be on the horizon in Piedmont.

As noted by TMW, Juventus seriously explored a move for Donnarumma in the summer, having doubts about Szczesny’s future at the club.

The Italian goalkeeper was mentioned when PSG made contact to discuss a possible deal for Dusan Vlahovic, but no agreement was reached for two reasons.

The first is that Juventus felt that Vlahovic was worth more than Donnarumma, something the Parisians disagreed with, and the second was the former Milan man’s salary of around €12m net per season including add-ons.

  1. Well, Dollaruma was not fantastic lately as well. If it wouldn’t have been the howler from Szczesny, this article might have never came to life
