Milan
The most obvious option for Carletto appears to be a return to Milan, where he remains a legendary figure.
Having made over 100 appearances for the Rossoneri as a player, winning back-to-back European Cups, the former midfielder won a Scudetto, the Coppa Italia and the Champions League a lengthy spell on the San Siro bench.
Adriano Galliani and Silvio Berlusconi couldn’t lure him back to Lombardy in 2015, but Vincenzo Montella is already under pressure this season after big spending in the summer.
With the Diavolo facing Inter and Roma in their next two Serie A games, and Ancelotti now available, a return to Milan could well be a possibility.
Roma
Ancelotti may have spent the most successful years of his career in Rossonero, but he also spent eight seasons with Roma in the 1980s, making 227 appearances.
The Giallorossi haven’t entirely convinced under Eusebio Di Francesco so far this season, and Ancelotti would certainly be a tempting proposition if they decide to make an early change.
However, there are questions over whether the Lupi would be willing to pay the 58-year-old’s wages.
Italy
The role of Azzurri CT is the pinnacle for any Italian Coach, and Ancelotti is no different.
Carletto has previously admitted interest in the role, but stated that he sees it as an option for the end of his career.
Having achieved all there is to do at club level, and with back problems necessitating a second home in Canada, could the time be right for Ancelotti to take over the national team?
Giampiero Ventura has just been given a new contract, and will certainly be given at least the World Cup – assuming Italy qualify – but failure in Russia could open the door for Ancelotti.
Back to the Premier League
In recent years most of the game’s elite Coaches have gravitated toward the Premier League.
Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho, Jurgen Klopp and Antonio Conte have all made the move to England, and Ancelotti has been successful there in the past, having won the league with Chelsea.
While there’s currently no obvious job available to the Italian, he’s sure to be high on any shortlist when one becomes available.
Paris Saint-Germain
He may have only spent a season and a half at PSG, but Ancelotti is credited with transforming the club into the behemoth it is today.
During his time at the Parc des Princes, the Coach ensured the Ligue 1 side began operating like one of Europe’s elite, and he’s fondly remembered in Paris.
With Unai Emery seemingly already struggling to handle the egos in the dressing room, Ancelotti could be just the man to finally take PSG to the Champions League glory they so crave.
