Milan are expected to officially announce the renewal of Rafael Leao’s contract on Friday and the Portuguese international could be in line for a change of shirt number heading into the 2023-24 season.
Leao has donned the number 17 shirt since his arrival from Lille in 2019, but that could be set to change, particularly if Brahim Diaz returns to Real Madrid upon the expiry of his loan deal at the end of the season.
La Gazzetta dello Sport writes that in the event that Diaz does return to Spain, Leao could take over his number 10 jersey heading into the new season.
The 23-year-old would join an illustrious list of players who have turned out wearing the iconic number 10 for the Rossoneri over the years, which includes Gianni Rivera, Ruud Gullit, Rui Costa, Zvonimir Boban and Clarence Seedor.
The paper also reports that Leao is also keen on wearing the number 7 for the Rossoneri, which is currently occupied by Yacine Adli.
