Georginio Wijnaldum was greeted at the airport by hundreds of Roma fans chanting his name, ready to complete the loan with obligation to buy move from PSG, and his grin said it all.

The 31-year-old Netherlands international arrived on a private jet provided by club owners the Friedkins, having first swung by Rotterdam to pick up members of his family.

Hundreds of supporters crowded around the Ciampino airport over an hour before the flight landed, chanting his name and celebrating the arrival of the new signing.

There were so many in the blistering heat that Roma provided water bottles to keep them hydrated.

He walked out of the gates with a huge grin on his face before posing for a few selfies and giving autographs, then was swept away in a car to meet club directors.

His medical tests will be tomorrow morning.

It will be a loan with obligation to buy for €8-9m if Roma finish in the top four of Serie A this season, while PSG will pay 50 per cent of his €9.5m salary during the loan period.

  1. Decent signing and player.

But Italy is getting a bit like Turkey – fans clamouring to see the next fading star arriving in Serie A.

  2. Who are you to decide it is a poor or decent signing.. this player is bad or good for Roma.. etc?
You did nothing, not even played professional or sunday league football.
Let the professionals do the math LOL

  3. HΓ© is very good signing trust me , PSG didn’t give him a chance to flourish as he did during his time at merseyside , Therefore wait and watch

  4. des who are you to decide we were no professional football or sunday league football players? πŸ˜‰
We’ll see what happens, let’s get a great season going! (of Serie A, our sunday league only comes in blooper video’s on Facebook)

  5. Really good signing for Jose. We were all sorry to see him leave Anfield. Hard working player with great touch and, given the opportunity, can add a few goals if allowed to play more forward in midfield, like as does for the Netherlands.
