For the second Serie A match in a row, Adrien Rabiot’s arm has proved too mysterious for VAR to over-rule a Juventus goal, as after Sampdoria, now Inter are protesting.

The France international seems to have a curious way of controlling the ball with his chest that either includes the top of his arm or makes it look as if it does.

VAR is undecided, as both in the win against Sampdoria and in this evening’s Derby d’Italia with Inter, a long VAR check ultimately ruled the footage was insufficient to disallow the goal as a ‘clear and obvious error.’

Former referee and current officiating pundit Luca Marelli also had his say on DAZN.

“We have no certainty, we have seen every angle available. We can eliminate the Vlahovic handball, as it was a long way off from the goal and his arm was flush to the body.

“What is interesting is to understand if Rabiot controls with his left arm. Like last week, we do not have an image that gives us certainty. After a long review, VAR did not have sufficient evidence to overturn the decision.”
