Antonio Cassano named his son after Lionel Messi, so decided to celebrate Argentina’s World Cup win by diving into a freezing swimming pool.

The former Italy international has made no secret of his admiration for Messi, even going so far as to name his son Lionel after La Pulga.

So when Messi scored twice in the World Cup Final and converted a penalty in the shoot-out to beat France after a 3-3 thriller in Qatar, Cassano had to do something special.

“It’s 2 degrees C, water is freezing, VAMOS LEO! WORLD CHAMPIONS, YOU ARE THE BEST IN HISTORY!”

Messi also received the Golden Ball as Player of the Tournament.

  1. @Mike Italians support Argentines as Italy was not present at the World Cup . Additionally Argentina has a large Italian population. So bravo Argentina !

  2. It’s not so much the supporting that is funny. That’s acceptable. It’s the over-the-top obsession Italians have and believe the feelings are reciprocal. They are not. I know this from personal experience.

Large Italian population? Like 150 Years ago? Sure. They feel ZERO affinity towards Italy. Believe me when I write this. Some feel a relationship like cousins to us “tano’s” but that’s as far as it goes.

Have known many Argentines that talk bad about our football. YET, if you play in Serie A, you are guaranteed a spot on their team. Yet they don’t make that connection.

  4. @Brandon … very well said… Italy’s sad state continues. Thankfully, there is a large contingency of Italians who look at this video and cannot relate.

  5. Milan vs Estudiantes circa 1960’s…

Please tell again how Argentine’s love Italian.

The feeling is not reciprocal, I’m know it first hand.
