Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot made history in the 2022 World Cup Final, as because of a new protocol, France were able to make seven substitutions.

Les Bleus were beaten eventually by Argentina in a penalty shoot-out, having fought back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 in normal time, then making it 3-3 in extra time with a Kylian Mbappé hat-trick.

As per the tournament rules, both teams were able to make five substitutions during the 90 minutes and sixth in extra time.

However, people were surprised when Didier Deschamps made a seventh change in the final seconds of extra time, replacing Jules Kounde with Axel Disasi.

This was allowed because one of the substitutions, specifically Rabiot at the 96th minute, was prompted by a knock to the head.

It is the new concussion protocol that allows teams who make an extra substitution if it is for a head injury and the Juventus and France man was the first to make the most of that possibility.
