Roma striker Paulo Dybala scored in the World Cup Final penalty shoot-out as Argentina beat France, ending an extraordinary taboo.

The game ended 2-2 after 90 minutes and 3-3 following extra time in the most dramatic final we’ve seen in decades.

Dybala was introduced as a substitute by coach Lionel Scaloni with moments to spare, as he was thrown on purely to participate in the penalty shoot-out.

La Joya, who spent most of his career in Serie A with Palermo, Juventus and Roma, took a big risk by rolling it nonchalantly down the middle past Hugo Lloris.

Curiously, there was a big taboo overshadowing him, because the last six players who were introduced as substitutes purely for penalties in the European Championship and World Cup fixtures ended up failing to convert.

That includes two players for England in the EURO 2020 Final against Italy, but Dybala ended that extraordinary run of misses.

It was only the second appearance at this World Cup for Dybala, who previously managed 16 minutes in the 3-0 semi-final win over Croatia.
