Arsenal boss Mike Arteta reacted to the news that Gunners’ loanee Pablo Marì – now at Monza – was stabbed in a supermarket in Milan on Thursday: ‘We are in touch with his relatives.’

Pablo Marì is among the five people wounded in a stabbing attack in a supermarket near Milan on Thursday. One person, a 30-year-old cashier, died in the attack.

“I’ve just found out, I know [Arsenal director] Edu has been in touch with his relatives and that he is in hospital,” Arteta said after Arsenal’s 2-0 loss against PSV on Thursday night.

“He seems to be o, but I don’t know. I’ll have a briefing now about the situation, we’ll be in touch with him and hopefully, he is ok.”

The attack unfolded at around 18.30 local time (17.30 in the UK). Andrea Tombolini, a 46-year-old Italian man, with mental health issues, was arrested and charged with murder and attempted murder.

Marì was taken to the hospital with a deep cut to his back and will undergo surgery today. He was visited by Monza director Adriano Galliani and coach Raffaele Palladino on Thursday.

Marì spoke to Gazzetta saying that he was ‘lucky’ and that he saw a person die in front of him.
