Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal has been detained by police in his native Chile after a car crash last night.

The 28-year-old and his wife were taken to hospital last night, after the Bianconeri man’s Ferrari was extensively damaged in a crash, but neither was seriously injured.

"The driver of the red vehicle was under the influence of alcohol," said police colonel Ricardo Gonzalez, with Vidal having been pictured in a casino.

The player, who is in Chile representing his country in the Copa America, will reportedly appear before a local judge today on suspicion of alleged drink-driving.

"Unfortunately I was involved in a traffic accident,” Vidal wrote on this Twitter account.

“Luckily we are all well and calm. Thanks for worrying.”
