Inter have moved ahead of Milan in the race for Monaco midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia, according to reports.

The Rossoneri were believed to be close to a deal for the 22-year-old, with Arsenal also thought to be in the race.

However, the Diavolo’s refusal to bid more than €25m has their city rivals in pole position, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Nerazzurri are believed to have offered €27m, though the newspaper asserts that the player’s wages could be a sticking point.

It’s thought that the player is asking for a salary of between €3.5m and €4m, which would see him become the Beneamata’s highest earner, with the club attempting to lower his demands.

Gazzetta dello Sport speculates that Roberto Mancini may personally intervene, with previous reports that he has personally spoken to Kondogbia to convince him of the project.
